Lady Lake Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Sumter County

A Lady Lake man died from injuries he sustained after a truck in which he was a passenger was hit and overturned in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night in Sumter County, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.

The 59-year-old Lady Lake man died at The Villages Regional Hospital, according to police reports.

Reports indicate that a 17-year-old Ocklawaha man was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango northbound at 6:09 p.m. Saturday on County Road 229 when he approached the intersection at County Road 466 and failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

As a result, the teen’s truck smashed into the left side of a 2001 Dodge Ram driven by a 65-year-old Umatilla man.

The Umatilla man’s truck rotated and overturned due to the impact of the collision. The deceased was a passenger in the vehicle.

The teen suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marion County West Hospital.

The age of the negligent driver can be a factor in an auto accident injury or wrongful death claim. The Villages Auto Accident Attorneys at Whittel & Melton understand how age can impact a case and will mount a successful defense strategy accordingly. If you or a loved one has been involved in an accident caused by a teenage driver, we can help.

There is a reason that teenage drivers have higher insurance premiums – they lack experience on the roadways. Their judgment tends to be inferior to that of adult drivers and they also have lower impulse control behind the wheel. Additionally, the increasing number of distractions to drivers does little to reduce the rate of teen driving accidents. A large percentage of teen driving accidents can be blamed on driver distractions, as teens are more likely to talk or send text messages on cellphones while driving. A Villages Auto Accident Attorney can thoroughly investigate auto accidents involving teen drivers making sure to fully analyze cellphone records and witness statements in these types of cases.
