Ex-Apopka Official Gets Probation in Hit-and-Run Crash

A former Apopka official will not serve time in prison over a hit-and-run crash after officials couldn’t prove he was the driver.

The 62-year-old did enter a plea of no contest during a sentencing hearing Tuesday morning to leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, which resulted in a three-year term of felony probation.

Prosecutors eventually dropped the reckless driving charges against him.

The former chief administrative officer for Apopka apparently left the scene of a head-on collision before speaking with Florida Highway Patrol officers.

A hit and run crash happens when a driver is involved in an accident with either another vehicle or a pedestrian and they flee the scene of the accident without giving any type of information about themselves or rendering any type of aid or help to someone. In most hit and run accidents, the reason someone runs from the scene is because they are guilty of something. They may not have insurance, they may be intoxicated, or they may have just realized that they have caused a serious accident and they have the urge to flee.

These are the types of patterns our Villages Auto Accident Lawyers at Whittel & Melton have seen in hit and run accidents. People generally flee because they have a guilty conscience about causing the accident, not being able to pay for it, or because they are drunk and/or under the influence of drugs.

If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a hit and run accident, you need to secure legal representation immediately. Our Villages Auto Accident Lawyers at Whittel & Melton can build a case to help recover any damages you may be entitled to.

The whole staff at Whittel & Melton was nice and always ready to help. However, I worked mostly with Jason. He demonstrated that he understood what to expect with our case and better that he cared about what was happening. I was very pleased with the outcome of our case.
