An electrical meter has been cited as the cause of a house fire that injured two Sumter County firefighters, burned a resident and killed two dogs.
The injuries to the firefighters and resident were not life-threatening.
The fire happened Thursday morning at a home in Webster.
According to a spokesman with Sumter County Fire & EMS, crews arrived to find the house on fire and the blaze spreading rapidly. Firefighters put the blaze out, but not before it had destroyed the home.
According to reports, two firefighters sustained minor orthopedic-type injuries, with one taken to the hospital and released and the other treated on the scene.
One resident was treated for a minor burn to his hand.
The origin of the fire was identified in the area of the electrical meter.
House fires can be caused by many different things. Faulty installation of meters, gas lines, or appliances, defective control valves, connectors and poor maintenance by a landlord, gas company, repair technicians, manufacturers and distributors of appliances could all contribute to a house fire.
